When I first visited Cherry Grove in 1981, I knew I had found my safe haven and began a new style of image-making, documenting the amazing people who were part of this remarkable LGBTQIA+ community.
Some of my Cherry Grove images were featured on the New York Times Lens Blog and in the International New York Times, Paris edition.
My photography book, Mascara, Mirth & Mayhem: Independence Day on Fire Island (www.mascaramirth.com) is a collection of Invasion of the Pines photographs that were taken over four decades.
A few of my other Cherry Grove books include, in limited edition: An Enduring Spirit: 1980’s Cherry Grove; Cherry Grove in Living Color; Cherry Grove in Living Color II; and Gaiety in the Grove, which showcases photos from my many years in the Grove.
